Tailgate - Just in time @ UK Automotive Manufacturing Facility
Automatica has successfully implemented a state-of-the-art ‘Just in Time’ Tailgate delivery system for Daifuku Europe at a leading UK car manufacturing facility. As the principal contract integrator, Daifuku engaged Automatica to design and manufacture the mechanical components of this innovative delivery system.
The system features a unique docking mechanism that allows a trailer to seamlessly dock at the end user's building, facilitating the efficient unloading of fully loaded platens and reloading of empty platens. This process is enhanced by the use of a False Lorry design, enabling simultaneous transfers that significantly expedite trailer turnaround times.
Once the False Lorry is loaded, the system efficiently transports products to the line-side point of fit directly onto the vehicle. Notably, the design includes ground-level operation while navigating the product through the roof area of the building, optimally preserving floor space within the manufacturing facility. This is achieved through strategically placed Lift (Drop Sections) at both facility ends, ensuring seamless vertical transitions.
Additionally, the system is equipped with an ASRS Crane system provided by Daifuku Europe, offering flexible storage and retrieval capabilities that adapt to changes in the build schedule. This feature ensures continuous alignment with production demands, enhancing overall operational efficiency.
The conveyor system itself is comprised of 24v Powered Roller Conveyor modules, chosen for their energy efficiency—achieving an 80% energy saving compared to traditional 415v systems—and their exceptionally quiet operation. The 'run on demand' nature of the 24v Powered Roller Technology fulfils the dual requirements of energy efficiency and noise reduction, making it ideal for high-demand production environments.
To meet the demands of dual production lines within the facility, the end user required two duplicate systems. Each system includes 24v Driven Roller Conveyor Modules, Turn Tables, Drop Sections, Shuttle Cars, and Lift Up Gate Sections, all designed to integrate seamlessly and provide robust, reliable service.
